Benraw Gold Ornament

Remote as the area may seem today there is evidence of foreign trade links to the Bronze Age and beyond.

This Early Bronze Age gold earring or pendant was found locally in the townland of Benraw in the 19th century.

It is of foreign origin, possibly from Iberia (present day Spain or Portugal) and dates from around 2000BC.

This important artefact is now on display in the National Museum of Ireland, Dublin.
